Words of our Surgeon General, Sunday, April 5, 2020: “This is going to be the hardest and the saddest week of most Americans’ lives,”
“This is going to be our Pearl Harbor moment, our 9/11 moment, only it’s not going to be localized; it’s going to be happening all over the country,”
As I reflect on these words spoken on Palm Sunday, I wonder if the disciples and followers of Christ could have imagined on that first triumphant Palm Sunday how sad they were going to be in only a few days. I doubt it.
So as I sit quietly before the Lord this morning, I’ve asked Him to prepare me with His power and love to face whatever this coming week brings knowing that Resurrection Sunday is also coming afterward!
These are the words I was led to this morning:
16 Thus says the LORD, who makes a way in the sea, a path in the mighty waters,
17 who brings forth chariot and horse, army and warrior; they lie down, they cannot rise, they are extinguished, quenched like a wick:
18 “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old.
19 Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. – Isaiah 43:16-19
I don’t pretend to know what New Thing God is doing, but I do know He hasn’t forsaken or abandoned us and even though we and the disciples may grieve deeply over what is to be lost, God was then and is now still on His Throne working out his plans he’s had since the beginning of time eternal. As we look to Him for all our needs and as we remember his faithfulness, may our faith grow stronger and may this Holy Week be more transforming than we have ever experienced. Don’t forget- Sunday’s coming!
